Lusk,
Co. Dublin
Since
1999, Arch-Tech Ltd. has been carrying out a large number of archaeological investigations
in and around the historic settlement of Lusk. Rapid growth of this Fingal village
has meant the need for assessment and monitoring of numerous developments and
infrastructural improvements. These ongoing works have revealed a rich archaeological
landscape stretching back far beyond the more familiar visible remains of medieval
Lusk, with evidence for previously unknown sites from the Neolithic period, the
Bronze Age and the Early Historic Period.
Where
new archaeological sites have been identified, they have either been fully excavated
and recorded, or preserved in situ through careful redesign of the developments.
In this way a balance has been struck between the opportunity provided by development
to learn about previously unsuspected aspects of Lusks past, and the need
to retain the physical traces of that past within the landscape.
