Archaeological
Testing
Archaeological
test excavation is an important part of the process of Archaeological
Impact Assessment, and is frequently a requirement of archaeological Planning
Conditions. Test excavation generally takes the form of a series of exploratory
trenches opened by a mechanical excavator under archaeological direction, in order
to establish the nature and extent of any archaeological features that may be
present on the site of a proposed development. Any archaeological material identified
will be examined and recorded, and an assessment made of its significance. Arch-Techs
licensed archaeologists can undertake efficient
programmes of test excavation and produce comprehensive Impact Statements that
assess the implications of any findings for the development. Test excavation reports
can be produced in advance of finalised development proposals, to accompany Planning
Applications, or in response to Planning Conditions and requests for Further information.
